They're not our conspirators just yet. At these restaurants, the robots are here to serve you. When ever someone says "robot restaurant, " I first think of an LED and laser show at a Tokyo venue where remote-controlled robots dance with bikini-clad girls in a sensory show that accompanies meal.
But the reality of robot restaurants is generally far more pedestrian and low-class.
One of these is Eatsa, the San Francisco-based restaurant company that takes orders through iPads and dispenses meals through automated machines. Until now, Eatsa has been using this tech to provide up quinoa bowls to health-food fans in its own restaurants. But the company announced Friday that it's expanding its robotic system to the fast-casual restaurant chain Wow Bao next month.
At Chicago-based Wow Bao, you can already order your steamed buns via its software or an on-site kiosk. Good results . Eatsa's tech, you'll also be able to accumulate your meal from an LED-lit cubbyhole displaying your name. Text showing up on the front of the cubby, one among a larger array, will tell you whenever your order is cooking and once you can double-tap on the box to accumulate the food.
It's a quick turn-around for Eatsa, which only a couple weeks back announced the closing of five of its eight restaurants across the country. The company has now turned its focus to offering automated tech as a platform to other restaurants such as Wow Bao.
A blend of unnatural intelligence, personal screens, robotics and -- perhaps most crucially -- the willingness of hungry customers to skip human interaction is coming at the right time to make Eatsa's shift possible. It's part of any gradual creep of technology which transforming our encounters of dining out, and even dining in, thanks to advances in delivery technical.
The first Eatsa-equipped Wow Bao will open in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago on Dec. one particular. Using the technology, Wow Bao plans to double its sites in 2018. It currently has seven company-owned locations, plus air-port, school campus, hotel and stadium franchises.
"When We first heard about Eatsa opening in San Francisco, I jumped on a plane to come see it, " Wow Bao President Geoff Alexander said in a statement. Alexander praised the technology as both entertaining and effective. "I knew straight away that Eatsa would be the perfect technology to integrate into our future locations. "
Do robots are supposed to be in the kitchen? For Eatsa and soon at Wow Bao, the robotic technology is front and center in the restaurant, serving customers and providing associated with an experience to go along with their takeout. In other restaurants, robots are still strictly consigned to the kitchen.
At Coffeehouse X and Zume, both based in San Francisco, programs make lattes and pizzas, respectively. California startup Miso Robotics has built a kitchen assistant robot called Flippy, which from early 2018 is expected to be grilling burgers in CaliBurger restaurants.
- Spoiler alert! You're never going to look
at coffee the same again. - [Narrator] It makes you
behave like the village drunkard in some early Irish novel. Total loss of all basic motor skills, blurred vision, no balance, numb tongue. - There are a lot of foods
that can get you high, but the ones I'm about to
tell you of aren't some type of obscure root sourced
from the rainforest; no, these are foods that
are readily available in any supermarket.
That next trip to get groceries is gonna feel a lot different after this. Here are 10 everyday foods
that can get you high. Number one is coffee. Coffee is something many people simply can't start their day without.
But, drink enough of it, and yes, you absolutely can get high. Because it's so popular, people often forget that it's a drug, more specifically, the caffeine part. Caffeine can boost your energy,
making you feel more alert, and even give you an
elevated sense of wellbeing. And guess what? That's the definition of being high.
Now, to be clear, 400
milligrams is the healthy max that a person can consume in a day; but that's only about three
to four cups of coffee, and if you drink more,
you can actually get high. In fact, five cups of coffee or more can actually lead to
caffeine intoxication; which causes nausea; diarrhea; and even worse, mess
up your nervous system. Two male undergrad students
from Northumbria University in England nearly died
while taking part of a study to test the effects of
caffeine on exercise. The researchers accidentally
gave them 30 grams of pure caffeine instead of 0.3 Grams.
That's almost 300 cups of coffee! Almost immediately, both men experienced violent side effects, like convulsions, blurred
vision, and vomiting, and both had to be put on dialysis. So, coffee can perk you up,
but just don't overdose on it. Number two are mulberries. If you feel like seeing
things that aren't there and don't mind being bent
over the toilet shortly after, try some mulberries! Raspberries' uglier, more exotic cousin, they're normally found in tropical places, and these berries can
be quite toxic to humans if they aren't fully ripe.
Eating unripe mulberries can get you high, leading to moderate hallucinations
and lightheadedness. But you might wanna think
again if you were considering starting a
psychedelic-pies-and-jams business, and that's because these bad-boy berries are actually a natural laxative; and a super powerful one, at that. So to avoid a day in the
bathroom puking your guts out, don't eat these. Number three is nutmeg.
The smell of nutmeg
immediately makes most people think of Christmas; eggnog; or fruit cake, which I happen to like. Don't judge me. It's one of the most
common spices you can find in holiday desserts, but
having too much of it can really screw up both
your mind and your body. The active ingredient in
nutmeg that gets you high is called myristicin, which
the human body is capable of converting into an
amphetamine-style psychedelic.
All you have to do is ingest
as little as four teaspoons of this spice, and at first you might feel as good as Christmas morning, with some mild hallucinations
and the feeling of pins and needles in your arms and legs. But just when you think
that you're in the clear, five hours later the dizziness
and nausea will set in, and you'll find yourself
curled up in a ball, paranoid that the world
is caving in on you while your mouth becomes
as dry as the Sahara. And the next morning you'll be having one of the worst hangovers
of your life, from nutmeg! Does that sound like a
jolly good time to you? I don't think so. Number four are chili peppers.
You might be thinking: "But
the only thing getting high "from chili peppers is
my core temperature." Yeah, but you're mistaken. It turns out, chilis are
quite useful in medicine. Chilis contain high levels of capsaicin, which is the chemical that causes the spicy food to be spicy. But it's also responsible
for sending out endorphins in response to all of that heat.
See, when your body senses
heat, it releases endorphins to ease the anticipated
pain of getting burnt. On the skin it can feel like numbness; and when you eat them, the
effects are even more intense. In fact, historians
believe that the Mayans were way ahead of the sriracha trend, and were using chilis as
hallucinogens over 9,000 years ago. Chili peppers can bring
the feeling of euphoria as the pleasure center of
your brain gets stimulated.
That's why, when you eat
something really spicy, it may feel like a
blowtorch to your mouth, but eventually the discomfort goes away, and you kind of start to feel good. And it's chasing that
high which is part of why barstool daredevils keep
ordering the suicide hot wings. Number five is sarpa salpa. One fish, two fish, red fish, I'm a fish, everything is melting,
purple is my spirit animal! There's a fish out there
that's totally capable of making you hallucinate if you eat it.
The sarpa salpa is usually found in the eastern Atlantic
ocean and Mediterranean Sea; but, it can be found on many
a dinner plate, as well. The body of the fish is completely edible, and maybe people enjoy it. But eating its head is
where the real trip begins. The sarpa salpa eats a
lot of algae and plankton, which can contain hallucinogenic
chemicals called indol.
It's hard to tell how
much indol is in the fish just by looking at it, so it's
pretty much a coin toss from just eating a fish head for
the sake of eating a fish head or having the worst hellfire-and-brimstone trip of your life. Be sure you've got someone to
watch over you if you do this, which I do not recommend, but you'll probably regret it either way. If you do try it, you can at
least feel like the Romans, which also ate sarpa salpa to trip balls. Which also kind of explains a lot about the Romans, doesn't it? Number six are mushrooms.
Obviously this video is for entertainment and educational purposes only, so I'm not saying to go out
there and try any of these, especially this one 'cause you
could literally die from it. Mushrooms are a form of fungi, and there are literally thousands of different species that exist. This makes it kinda hard
to figure out which one would be a good pizza
topping, or which ones will make you think that
you're in the land of Oz, or which ones will kill you instantly. Psilocybe, or magic mushrooms, have been used as a
psychedelic drug for ages.
Like other mild hallucinogens, they can cause a sense of euphoria and feeling like you
live in a kaleidoscope while also causing dizziness,
nausea, and vomiting. Bummer. But since most mushrooms look so similar, if you aren't a trained botanist, you could end up taking a lethal dose of something super poisonous. So unless you bought it
from the grocery store, it's best to leave the
magic to the professionals.
Number seven are poppy seeds. It's been a longstanding
rumor that poppy-seed bagels have caused some people
to fail their drug tests. But before you dismiss that
as just a myth, keep watching. Opium is actually made from poppy seeds, which contain morphine and codeine.
And, poppy-seed bagels
have, um, a lot of them. Yeah, there's a reason
that Dorothy passed out in the field for like a day, guys. These are some of the most
addictive painkillers out there, which makes it no surprise
that, centuries ago, opium fueled the global drug trade. Even today, there is a huge
problem of people abusing prescription pills, trying
to chase down that same high.
Now, granted, you'd have
to eat a lot of poppy seeds to get you messed up, but, depending on where the
poppy seeds came from, it is most definitely possible
that you could get high. Number eight is Stilton cheese. You don't even have to be awake to get the effects of this drug/food; in fact, it's better if you're not. Dating back to the 1700s, this particular pungent
type of blue cheese was founded in a village
called Stilton in England.
The cheese is exported around the world, but there are only three
countries in England that still make it according
to its strict code. If you aren't a fan of strong cheese, you might feel like just
a bite will knock you out, but the truth is, it's actually known to affect the dreams of those who eat it. A survey completed in 2005
by the British Cheese Board, yeah that's a thing, found that
75% of men and 85% of women who consumed Stilton cheese
just half an hour before going to sleep had incredibly
strange and vivid dreams. Many even reported that the
dreams were so real that it was if they were having
hallucinations rather than dreaming.
Well, it sure seems like
a halloumi of a good time. I mean, it sounds pretty great. Really, it doesn't get any feta than that. OK, I'm just go listen to some R & Bree.
Number nine is rye bread. While not every piece
of rye bread comes with that little something
extra to get you high, it doesn't mean that the
next sandwich you have won't. In fact, historians
claim that this seemingly innocent baked good
could have been the cause of some of the events
that got people tried as witches during the Salem Witch Trials. See, ryegrass is susceptible to a fungus called Claviceps Purpurea which causes a little thing called ergot poisoning.
When ingested by humans, this
stuff can lead to many issues, including headaches, nausea,
and intense hallucinations. Which maybe isn't so
surprising when you consider that ergot contains ergotamine, which just so happens to
be a psychoactive chemical which is used in the synthesis of LSD. So you may not feel "Awesome, dude", but, if you're looking to see and
hear things that aren't there, a little ergot poisoning with
your rye bread in the morning is just what the unlicensed
back-alley doctor ordered. And number 10 is sugar.
OK, you've heard of a
sugar high before, right? Well, before you go
dismissing it as something that exclusively happens to children binging on cake and candy
at a birthday party, let's discuss just how much
of a drug sugar actually is. For starters, it's important to understand that sugar affects people differently. Our bodies tend to burn
through the basic carbohydrates that make up sugar pretty quickly, leaving the body to have
a short burst of energy. Now, this doesn't last
long, but it feels great, so naturally, we start to crave even more.
So, this is a substance that
you can take internally, get a short high from, and then crash, and it makes you want more of it? Sounds like a drug to me. In fact, believe it or not,
excessive amounts of sugar can actually damage
internal organs in ways that hard drugs like heroine
and cocaine never could. So, after learning that, it shouldn't be a surprise that sugar is highly addictive. The problem with so much
packaged and processed food out there is that sugar is
in practically everything, making it really hard to avoid.
That being said, damn
sugar, where's my Pixy Stix? So those were 10 foods
that can get you high. Today's question is: what
other foods do you know of that can get you high as a kite? I want to know what it is,
and also what it does to you. You know, for a friend. So, leave your response below because I'll be reading through them, and I'll pin the best one to the top.
And thank you guys so
much for coming by today. Remember to come back
tomorrow and every weekday at three p.M. Eastern Standard Time because I'll have a
brand-new video for you. I will see you then..
They're not our conspirtors as of this time. At these restaurants, the robots are here to serve you. When someone says "robot restaurant, " I first think of an LED and laser show at a Tokyo venue where remote-controlled robots dance with bikini-clad girls in a sensory show that accompanies meal.

Americans are so polite. All of us! I do think Americans are more polite than
British people sometimes. Yeah. And friendlier.
Definitely friendlier. A lot of British people arent very friendly
though are they? No were horrible. Absolutely horrible. Japan is home to arguably the finest cuisine
in the world.
Prepared with the freshest ingredients At the hands of some of the the worlds most disciplined chefs. Now all we have to do now is get out there
and eat it all - which is a sacrifice, Im willing to make. I recently won a competition called Tohoku 365 To travel around the entire northern region of Tohoku, through 6 different prefectures In search of the very best local food. In the last episode we explored Miyagi prefecture,
eating our way through 6 delicious must try local dishes.
6 Prefectures. 6 Dishes. There seems to be a worrying pattern emerging
around the number 6. This week were continuing our journey around
to Iwate prefecture, Japans second biggest prefecture Where Ill be catching up with
Natsuki and trying one of my favourite Japanese dishes And meeting a local expat from America, wholl be showing us around one of Iwates biggest street markets.
But like all good trips, we start off with
a bucket of Genghis Khan Like the Mongolian dictator? What. I wont lie, I was pretty excited when I
heard of a local dish in Iwate, called Genghis Khan. I was even more excited to discover the dish
involves barbequed lamb A meat which is pretty rare to find in Japan. Despite the name Genghis Khan is a Japanese dish It got its name as Japanese people commonly associated Mongolia with sheep.
And naturally it made sense to name the dish
after a historic dictator from the same country. My only criticism was the dish didnt come
with a side of Chairman Mao. Its the only time that Ive had lamb
in Japan. Lamb is actually my favourite meat, but Ive
done without it since living in Japan.
Its nice to finally get hold of some - and
cook it on a bucket. The best place in Iwate to enjoy Genghis Kan,
is the countryside town of Tono. It turns out people in Tono like to wander
off into the countryside for bbqs And the bucket is their answer to a portable bbq. What I like about this is you put the lamb
on top and the fat on top And then the juices run down into the vegetables on the side to give them a meaty flavour.
And youve got this sauce here which is
soy sauce mixed with ginger That goes really well with the lamb. Very good. The future is buckets. With a population of 300,000 Morioka might
not be a large city by Japanese standards, but its certainly bustling with character.
And as luck would luck would have it, Ive
managed to find myself a tour guide; a local American expatriate called Quinlan, who Ive
met through Airbnb. Its worked out pretty well as hes kindly offered to show us around the Moriokas bustling street market. Glorious American hospitality. Id recommend getting some of these.
Youre hungry right? Ill get five of these. One of the most popular stands in the market
is a stall selling smoked goods. Mr Toyama sells a variety of food thats
he professionally smoked himself Ranging from fish to vegetables and even cheese. And it's not long before Ive snapped
up a plateful of smoked camembert.
Hes got a lot of smoked internal organs
if youre feeling adventurous. Smoked internal organs? Yeah. That sounds appealing I think Ill stick with the cheese. Yeah Im with you.
Its funny I always talk about how theres
no cheese in Japan and yet weve found cheese in Miyagi prefecture and now cheese in Iwate
prefecture as well. Clearly Im wrong. I havent been looking hard enough for the
last 4 years. I could take you to see cows tomorrow? If youre still entranced What an offer! Theres some
dairy farms around here.
I could take you to see some cows tomorrow. Thatd be a great chat up line! How would you like to see some cows? I can take you tomorrow. With that dashing accent, definitely. Americans are so polite.
All of us! 100% Of the time. I do think Americans are more polite than
British people sometimes. Yeah. And friendlier.
Definitely friendlier. A lot of British people arent very friendly
though are they? No were horrible. Absolutely horrible. So whats this Quinlan? That is a Tofu Dengaku.
What does Dengaku mean? Lightening study. No, it means smeared with Miso and then fried
or grilled. I like the sound of lightening study. So Tofu with miso smeared on it, cooked over
charcoal.
Like a Tofu lollipop. Its very salty. Tofu is flavourless, so its nice to have
a bit of flavour on it. Its coming off.
Quite healthy? Yeah Tofus healthy. This is a Vegans dream - a tofu lollipop,
and its slowly going down the stick. Not the easiest thing to eat. Being a Vegan isnt easy.
Being a Vegan isnt easy! Having officially lived a difficult life as
a vegan - for 90 seconds Im going in search of Moriokas most famous food. Morioka might not be huge, but it still has
quite the culinary identity The city is well known for its three famous noodle dishes; each of them surprisingly different. You might already know the first noodle dish,
Wankosoba. Wankosoba is less of a dish, more of a hardcore challenge Whereby you're given an unlimited amount of buckwheat soba noodles served in tiny bowls And have to basically shot them continuously until you either give up or are physically sick.
It's said that a real man should be able to
eat 100 bowls Which I was able to do when I challenged my friend Ryotaro on a trip last year. For more details on Wankosoba, and to see
who won the challenge, be sure to check out our video. The second type of noodle was named after
your favourite Star Wars character. That's right, Jajamen, and no I'm not making
that name up.
Jajamen is a dish comprised of thick noodles,
similar to udon, covered with a meaty miso sauce and cucumber. My first impression upon trying it was
"It's the closest thing I've had in Japan to spaghetti bolognese". But as well as being named after your favourite
Star Wars character, it's also a 2 in 1 dish. Once you finished 2/3 of the bowl, hand it
over to shop staff who will add the hot water used to cook the noodles, and convert the
dish into a soup called Chi Tantan.
It's honestly one of the most unique and delicious
dishes I've had in Japan so far. The last of the 3 famous noodles is Reimen,
a cold noodle dish originally from Korea. The noodles are rubbery in texture and somewhat
translucent, with the cold soup served typically with beef, kimchi, cucumber, and a piece of
fresh fruit. In my case, watermelon.
Yay, watermelon. The soup is a little bit spicy, hence the
fresh fruit to soothe your mouth. But for me, the best of the 3 great noodle
dishes of Morioka has to be Jajamen Not just because it brought back nostalgic memories
of my favourite Star Wars character But because it's like nothing I've had in Japan before
with the thick meaty miso sauce Being the perfect combination with the thick noodles. There's no better way to end your day with
a bowl of Jajamen, and a bucket of Genghis Khan.
Food with names. I've been looking forward to this all week:
visiting restaurant Wakana, one of Morioka's top Teppanyaki restaurants. There are 2 ways of preparing beef in Japan. First is through a hotpot called Sukiyaki.
The second is Teppanyaki, which literally
translates as iron plate grill. And in my opinion, Teppanyaki is the best
way to enjoy wagyu beef. Oh, it's really cool we got our own little
dining area. Our own little walled off dining area.
Like a garden or something, with a big brick
wall. The highlight of Teppanyaki is the sense of
theatre. We'd have our own personal chef cooking us
a succulent cut of Maesawa beef Iwate's most famous beef, and amongst the top 5 cuts of
beef in all Japan. Maesawa beef, you know? Maesawa beef, it's art, and the world.
I say theatre, it can also feel a bit like
torture. Watching the juicy cut of steak being prepared
in front of you for 20 minutes. Finally, the steak is sliced into bite sized chunks And served with a spicy chili miso sauce. Eating the steak is a sensation difficult to put into words But fortunately weve got Natsuki on hand to deliver his premium verdict.
Before I try it, I want to see how Natsuki
reacts. 1 To 10? Maybe 10. 10? 10! In one word - one English word - how would
you describe it? Justice delicious! Thats two words Justice delicious! That doesnt make sense! Justice delicious Oh number one! Tohoku number 1. Justice delicious.
You heard it here first, Maesawa beef. Not justice! Trust me! Trust you. You could be a great food reviewer. Trust us.
I feel like Im eating something thats
been sent from God. Like a river. Like a slowly river. Like a quiet lake.
Like a quiet lake or a slow river. Its art. It is art. It looks like art, it tastes like art.
Its so good, eating it feels like youre
doing something terrible. I feel like I should just sit here and admire
it. 1 To 10 you know. Its over 10 for the first time.
Thats impossible! I can believe. In our next journey with Tohoku 365, well
be visiting the prefecture of Aomori. Where Natsuki gets up close with Jaws. Nice dental.
Nice dental? I create the ultimate bowl of sashimi at an
innovative all you can eat fish market And an entire city is brought to a standstill,
by a tortoise randomly walking down a street. It's the sort of exciting, surprising, bizarre
things you sometimes see everyday whilst walking around Japan. Many thanks for watching guys, we'll see you
next time. Maesawa beef, you know? Maesawa beef, it's art.
Eat These 6 Foods to Naturally Cleanse Your
Liver! We are all consuming lots of processed foods
on a daily basis. Then there is the environmental pollution. We intake so much preservatives
and additives on a daily basis. All this makes it crucial that our body be given a boost
from time to time so that it keeps working properly and remains healthy.
Our liver plays one of the most important
roles in eliminating toxins from our body. Without the liver, your body will not be able
to absorb nutrients from foods. In order to flush toxins out of your body
and detox your liver, you should ensure that you include into your regular diet these 6
good foods for your liver. Garlic Garlic is loaded with so many powerful benefits
for your liver.
It has selenium in it, a mineral that helps boost antioxidant action which
is great for detoxification of liver. The vitamin B6 in garlic works as an anti-inflammatory
in your liver. The arginine in garlic, which is an amino acid, helps in giving relaxation
to the blood vessels. This helps in easing blood pressure within your liver.
Grapefruit How grapefruit works to help your liver is
that it contains high amounts of vitamin C. And glutathione. The liver also produces glutathione
naturally. There are so many processes in our body that require glutathione.
This includes
producing proteins and chemicals essential for the body, tissue building and repair,
and making a stronger immune system. Leafy Green Veggies Leafy green vegetables can help in protecting
your liver, as they neutralize chemicals, metals and pesticides from the environment
and your foods. You should take more spinach, chicory and arugula because they can help
in increasing bile flow and eliminating waste products. You should also take beets because
they help in cleansing and purifying your blood.
This helps in boosting liver function
and increases the production of nutrients in your body. You should also take cruciferous
vegetables like Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and broccoli. They are beneficial for the
liver in the production of enzymes that aid in removing toxins. Avocados Avocado is well known as a superfood.
When
you realize that it is also a superfood for your liver, you will have more reasons to
eat it. Avocado has glutathione, vitamin C, and vitamin E. These nutrients work as antioxidants
that help in neutralizing harmful free radicals and in protecting liver cells against damage.
Both vitamin E and K present in this fruit further help in protecting your liver against
harmful inflammation because they are anti-inflammatory. They have healthy fats that further help in
improving your cholesterol levels.
Walnuts You should be taking more walnuts because
they are rich in amino acid arginine. It plays an important role in helping your liver in
the detoxification of ammonia. Besides, walnuts also contain high amounts of omega-3 fatty
acids and glutathione. They support liver detoxification.
They are loaded with antioxidants,
thus helping in the neutralization of harmful free radicals. They also have healthy unsaturated
fats which help in two main ways: Protecting from the accumulation of fat in
your liver. Development of strong cell membranes around
the liver cells. Turmeric Turmeric contains curcumin as its primary
active ingredient.
It is known as a very powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. This ingredient
also helps in protecting your bile duct. This helps in boosting bile flow, thus working
as a liver cleanser. It also helps in rejuvenating your liver cells through the prevention of
alcohol and toxins from converting into compounds that could cause damage to your liver.
When
you sprinkle some turmeric over your food, it helps in adding little flavor while giving
its amazing health benefits. If you like the video, give it a thumbsup

- [Narrator] Because
you loved our last video about Germany, we
know you wanted more. And so without further ado,
we bring you the best foods with the original German
stamp of quality approval. Here are the top five
most popular German foods. (Speaking foreign language) Weisswurst mit sussem senf, or white sausage
with sweet mustard, is a Bavarian specialty
that is, in many ways, emblematic of Bavarian
culture and tradition.
A type of bruhwurst,
or scalded sausage, it is most often served
with sweet mustard and a type of soft
pretzel called brezel. It can be served at breakfast,
rather surprisingly, but can be eaten at
any time of the day, which is why a large
stein of beer is something that almost always
accompanies it. Weisswurst can be eaten
a variety of ways, from the standard of
cutting them into pieces and dipping them
into sweet mustard, to the traditional
Bavarian way called zuzeln, or sucking, in Bavarian, which involves sucking the
meat out of the sausage. But however you decide
to eat your weisswurst, we know you'll love it.
Sauerbraten, or pickled
roast, is a near universal German specialty that everyone
needs to try at least once. It's essentially a type of
pot roast that can be made from lamb, beef, pork,
venison, and even horse. Normally the meet is
marinated for several days in a variety of spices
along with vinegar, wine, and other seasonings, and when finally served,
has a very distinct flavor, with the meat being incredibly
tender and delicious due to days of marinating. It's often served alongside
the traditional German side dish called knodel,
which is a type of dumpling often made of dough
or potato starch, and pickled red cabbage
with bits of apple.
Sauerbraten is
considered by some to be the preeminent national
dish of Germany, and once you taste it,
you'll surely know why. Rote grutze, or literally,
red grit, is a sweet dish traditionally made
in Northern Germany. It's usually made
with a type of starch, sometimes potato, or more
traditionally semolina, and is then mixed with
what are sometimes called red summer berries,
suck as red currant, blackberries, black current,
raspberries, strawberries and others of the kind. The preparation is simple
and involves mixing the berries with the grit
by boiling them together and mixing them with sugar,
similar to a pudding.
The result is a simple but
unbelievably sweet dessert that is both
mouth-watering and typical of Northern German cuisine. Curry-wurst is the
ultimate fast food dish originating in Germany. And few Germans will deny
the popularity of this food and its symbolic value
or its cult status. Served with a bratwurst,
or fried port sausage which is usually
cut into pieces, and often accompanied by
a side of fries or pomace, and sometimes a
brotchen, or bread roll, the sausage is often
drenched in ketchup and curry powder to give
it a distinct taste.
It might not be the
healthiest food out there, but there are few things
as finger-licking good as a giant curry-wurst to go. Lebkcuchen is a traditional
sweet German baked good that is enormously
popular during Christmas. It comes in a wide
variety of types. Typically it's made
with honey and a mixture of spices such as
ginger and cloves, as well as nuts and
sometimes candied fruit.
Lebkcuchen has a truly
unique taste of sweetness and a kind of strange,
but delightful, taste of spice
reminiscent of cinnamon, but one you can really only
experience for yourself. In addition to a
variety of ingredients, there're also hard
and soft types. Lebkcuchen is usually only
eaten around Christmas, but it tastes so good that
we'll be that you'll want to be eating it year round. For more top lists like
